Polar Bear Pitching Pre-party

Oulu Game Industry Meetup will be followed by the Polar Bear Pitching Pre-party at Viihdemaailma Ilona, Torikatu 21-23. The event is hosted by IGDA Finland Oulu Hub, Fingersoft, and Lexia.

Discuss interesting topics with like-minded people over a few beverages, take a peek at promising new games at the game demo corner, and simply enjoy good company.

If you are a game developer, you can apply for a free demo booth from the event!
Contact shahriar.rhiday@gmail.com in order to apply and for more info.

The event starts at 7PM in the evening, and continues until 12AM.

New coaches in Oulu Game LAB

Oulu Game LAB has two new coaches, who have started this spring.

Ari-Matti Piippo will be handling Game Design coaching. He's an OGL Survivor from years back and has been since doing game design for Namida Diamond Factory amongst other Game Design duties.

Jani Löthman will be our new graphics coach, he's a solid professional who has been working as a teacher before. In addition to teaching, he has been working also as a coder. So technical approaches should not be a problem.

We are looking forward to excellent coaching sessions and lectures from our new gurus!

OGL Game Jam Results

The first OGL Game Jam was organised last week. We had a great turnout of people from as far as Ylivieska and Kokkola. Although this was a pilot project with minimum effort in organising the event was a lot of fun and we made 7 games in just 36 hours. There will be more jams to game in Oulu Game LAB, stay tuned!

We've now assembled those games to a website and included screenshots, descriptions and game builds for you to test (where they were available).

Results are here!

If your game is lacking some of the abovementioned details and you want them added, contact Aki Latvamäki (check the staff page here at OGL website for contact info)

Xenocide has been greenlit!

Very awesome news! Oulu Game Lab based Xenocide has been accepted to Steam through the Greenlight program. We are super excited about this and wish to congratulate the team for their endurance during the development. Let's see what the future has to offer them, in the meanwhile we will be looking forward to hear what kind of gameplay features they are going to be developing next. Cheers! Today we will hoist one for Xenocide!

OGL had a very exciting week, with lots of international guests

On Monday, Stine Pedersen, from Aarhus University, visited our teams and also demonstrated the board game developed by her team to explore the lifetime of a start-up.

On Tuesday, we had the honor of receiving Mr. Motomu Takeshige, Deputy President from Sendai National College of Technology, Japan, who just signed a contract with OAMK to start an exchange program with OGL next Autumn.

Mr. Takeshige was deeply impressed by the level of development of our teams and is anxious to send his brightest students to collaborate with us.

And on April we will have more illustrious guests: on April 08th, the Unity team, from UK, will be visiting us and offering, for OGL teams and local game businesses, an special workshop on Unity 5, Cloud Build and Unity Analytics. The event starts at 17.00, in Business Kitchen, and you are all invited!

On week 16, we will be also receiving guests from Hanze University, Holland, who will be visiting our teams and exchanging ideas and planning the future with OGL.

With our efforts to export the Game Lab model, these are all great news for OGL!

New Lab Masters in charge of OGL

Spring is coming and as everyone knows it's the time for a change, and that it is for OGL as well.

We have new Lab Masters! Patty Toledo and Aki Latvamäki will be replacing the notorious duo Jussi Autio and KP Heikkinen, whose legacy will be kept alive while Aki & Patty will be improving OGL even further.

One of our goals is to stop this news blackout that has been ongoing and start updating the website to reflect what is actually happening.

We are looking forward to working closely with people in the games industry & business. If you want to contact us, you can send e-mail to firstname.lastname@oamk.fi - We will be happy to hear from you.
